Liberalism and disentailment (1814-1844). A special reference to Málaga

Abstract

Liberalism was an early phenomenon in Málaga, and it began with the arrival of the French. Since that time, the people of Málaga got fully involved in the country’s political life, starting in numerous occasions insurrectional movements which in the end resulted in the fall of the Moderates. At the same time, a bourgeoisie developed whose interest became that the Liberal party which had carried out the sale of Church lands remained in power at all costs.
