Abstract
This article takes position regarding the treatment of “issues” on Twitter during Spain’s May 2015 election campaign. We
focus on hashtags produced by PSOE’s and Podemos’s accounts, with the aim of comparing the thematic treatment of
traditional parties and that of newcomers. Therefore, the use of issues in hashtags is systemized, as well as, in their tweets
and retweets. For analysis, two computer programs are used which were developed for capturing and storing tweets and
for quantitative data processing. Quantitative and qualitative content analysis is applied.
