This research deals with John Ford’s filmography to deepen the vision that the director had of two of the ambit realities that portrayed most throughout his work: the family and the army. After a biographical, historical and social contextualization, and an approach to the vision of the Army and the family that Ford portrays in his cinema, this article focuses on the anthropological analysis of the movie Rio Grande (1950). For the development of this study is made use of López Quintás methodology, which is applied to three key dialogues of the movie.
