This study explores the opportunities and challenges posed by artificial intelligence (AI) in the teaching of Social Sciences, analysing its potential to transform methods and enhance educational outcomes. Using a qualitative, exploratory approach, it examines selected research and applications of AI, including personalized tutoring, data analysis tools, and visual content generation. In specific disciplines such as History, Geography, and Art History, AI has already demonstrated its capacity to facilitate the development of active projects and methodologies that deepen students’ understanding and foster critical analysis. However, the study also identifies several challenges, such as the need for training in digital competencies, the ethical handling of data, and the prevention of bias in AI systems. Additionally, it emphasizes the importance of critical digital literacy for educators, aiming to ensure a thoughtful and ethical use of these technologies. While AI offers growing opportunities to personalize and enrich Social Science education, it is evident that these tools must be integrated with a critical and ethical perspective that complements classroom teaching and interaction.
