18th june 2008

Abstract

Citizenship Education has been implemented in Spain as a compulsory subject in the national curricula. The issue has produced great disturbance in Spanish society due to its aims concerning children morals. The author of this article analyses the philosophical conception that is at the bottom of Citizenship Education, and also in the Spanish education system. The author considers that we are not before a mere pedagogical question, but before a certain concept of the State and of the person in which there is little space for freedom.
