Abstract
The present article is an investigation about representations and social roles that Spanish press transmits about women and their role in all fields. Through a quantitative and qualitative analysis of news published during the first quarter of 2009 on the front page of two national newspapers, a free newspaper and seven local newspapers, the authors investigate themes in which women appear, their links with other social actors and the kind of prominence that newspapers grant them. As well, the investigation values the position of the piece of new in the front page according to extension, graphical accompaniment and position on the page compared to other news.
